Én ezt az igeverset így nem értem: mert így azt jelenti hogy irigykedni szeretne a lélek ami bennünk lakik. Vagyis így az óemberről szól aki másokra irigykedik, olyan mint a világ, ez talál azzal hogy a gerjedelmekről beszél előtte, a világi kívánságról. A baj cask az hogy akkor az óember nem irigységre kívánkozna, senki nem irigy akar lenni hanem a jót kívánja meg a másiktól, azt venné el vagy szeretné ha neki is lenne.

A másik jelentés ami kitűnik az alábbi igen sok fordításból, az arról beszél hogy Isten féltékenyen szeret minket és minden barátkozásunk a világgal féltékenységet vált ki belőle. Ez jobban ide talál és a legtöbb fordítás ezt használja: csak minket akar, vágyik a lélek után ami bennünk van, a Lélek amit belénkhelyezett vágyik az Úrra, vagy az Úr vágyik ránk. Nem tudjuk mire hivatkozik itt Jakab (lásd a németet). A többi fordításból: Isten nem tolerálja a riválisokat, csak magának akar, egy nagyon féltékenyen ránk vágyódó Isten, nem akar eltávolodást.

Szóval ezek alapján valahogy így fordítanám:

Vagy azt gondoljátok, hogy hiába mondja az Írás: féltékenyen vágyakozik a bennünk lakozó lélek ?
